Tension/Trauma Release Exercises (or TRE®) involves a set of physical exercises with shaking designed to help the body release tension, stress and negative emotions, particularly from the muscles.
We have been conditioned over time to hold on to our emotions. Sadness, anger, joy are all natural and should be expressed. However, we tend to swallow our feelings, especially the negative ones. As humans, when confronted with a stressful situation that is potentially life threatening we go into a state of fight/flight or freeze. In all these states the body releases cortisol and adrenalin. If we do not discharge these, the energy remains in our body and forms as tension. Allowing the body to naturally tremor and shake will help release the tension stored, whilst also freeing the mind.
Whether tension has built up in the body through sitting at a desk 8 hours a day, a stressful period in your life or traumatic experiences from childhood, it is a wonderful practice to rebalance the nervous system and shift the balance towards the parasympathetic response (rest & digest), promoting relaxation, a sense of calm and overall well-being.
TRE sessions last for 75 minutes. You will need to wear comfortable clothing. TRE sessions can be carried out both in-person or on-line.
